ABOUT US

Dr. med. Tanja Eichenberger-Gautschi
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
DR. MED.
TANJA EICHENBERGER-GAUTSCHI
Having grown up on a farm half an hour away from Aarau, I completed medical school in Basel and relocated to London with my husband whom I have three daughters with. We still commute between Aarau and London very regularly. Therefore, when not on site, I can be reached by video consultation. You can find all available dates here. Alternatively, one of my collegues will be happy to help.
From my own experience managing motherhood, career and a relationship can be overwhelming at times. I am passionate about empowering women in finding the confidence to blend in a family and a career.
Having worked at Guy's and St Thomas' Hopsital in London for many years, I offer special advice on gynaecological topics such as Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCO-S), Menopause and Reproductive Medicine. As a former middle and long-distance runner, it is also close to my heart to be a contact point for competitive athletes with focus not only on their health, but also by taking into consideration their individual aims and goals.
I became a gynaecologist because I am fascinated by women's stories and convinced that a visit to the gynaecologist can also be something pleasant.
As a former middle and long-distance runner, it is also close to my heart to be a contact point for competitive athletes and to respond to the individual situations of my patients. As a member of the ATHLETES HEALTH NETWORK, I accompany you on your path to top performance and good health.

I can look back on 26 years in leading positions at two renowned hospitals: first as head of the women's clinic at the Cantonal Hospital of Aarau and then as head of the gynecological clinic at the University Hospital of Zurich.
My interest in medicine has remained constant since my specialist training. Women's medicine inspires me with its versatility: it covers health and illness, prevention and advice and accompanies women in every phase of life – from youth to old age. Fortunately, I am physically and mentally fit and am not thinking about retirement yet.
My areas of expertise include pelvic floor complaints (such as prolapse problems and incontinence), gynecological tumor diseases and endometriosis. Obtaining a second opinion is playing an increasingly important role today. I see it as one of my central tasks to provide patients with competent advice based on my many years of expertise. My experience enables me to keep cool even in difficult situations – always.
I live in Aarau with my wife. Our children are grown up now. We share a passion for gardening, are adventurous and enjoy both sporting and cultural activities.

The human body is a miracle. An impressive system that is unfortunately also susceptible to illness or dysfunction. Because that fascinates me, studying medicine was quickly shortlisted after graduating from high school. I was influenced not least by my mother who was a gynecologist. During my time as a student, women's issues increasingly came into focus, and I was committed to fighting for the rights of women and taking the perception of women seriously. That was my path into gynecology and obstetrics.
To this day, I am still impressed and touched by the discovery of new life when I perform pregnancy ultrasound examinations. I also find menopause a fascinating transition in a woman's life.
Openness and humility are important to me. It is also important to me to find simple solutions to alleviate illness or symptoms and to influence the patient's well-being as positively as possible, especially with regard to their self-confidence and their identity as a woman.
It's nice to see when the patient leaves the practice a little lighter than when she came in.
My free time belongs to the family, to books, to the forest. Simply places and encounters where I find peace and relaxation.

I was interested in biology and medicine from an early age, which is why I decided to study medicine. After studying, my path initially took me through psychotherapy training to gynecology, which was still a male domain at the time.
Respectful interaction and contact with my patients as equals is very important to me. I consider a good feeling of self and loyalty to oneself to be the basic requirements for this. I would like to encourage my patients to consciously perceive their body and accept it as it is.
For me it is essential that women have comprehensive knowledge about their bodies. What I particularly value about my job are the encounters with a wide variety of people. In addition to the medical aspect, I am also interested in how my patients are doing and where they currently stand in their lives.
In my free time, I like to spend time in the garden and enjoy watching the plants grow and thrive. I also exercise regularly and enjoy cooking.
